Having been a blogger for almost three years, had blow out fights via email that would have been kinder in person, gotten too close to a married man via email, and now, LOVING twitter and liking FB, yes, the online life is better so much better when it is coupled with IRL.

The other day I thought of you reading the Technology Review; there appeared a piece entitled, “It’s Not A Revolution of Nobody Loses” that touched slightly Benjamin’s “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,” saying, “Substitute blogs and social-networking platforms and Twitter and YouTube and Wikipedia for film and photography, and the nearly century-old essay becomes a relevant, piercing alarm.”

It made me think of that conversation we had at the Hotel Bolivar in Lima proper, talking revolution on Louis XVI chairs, looking at our reflections in gilded mirrors. Ah, revolution!

If the medium is the message, surely the medium has its own erotics too?

From the St. Petersburg Times, Defendant denies connection to bomb that killed ex-wife: “The bomb, wrapped in Christmas paper, was left on the doorstep of her parents’ home, where she was staying. Seaslug says in an e-mail, “I find it interesting that it was, perhaps, easier for him to engage in a particularly cruel act with someone he had known face to face, and with whom he had at least one child, while his predominant online persona was in the image of a rather light-hearted hero.” Creepy.

Although I personally do not make close friends via technology, that is because the anonymity of the internet doesn’t provide me with enough comfort to open up. I take quite some time to become comfortable enough with someone, online or off, to reveal certain aspects of myself and my life, and in blogging, the audience varies, keeping me in a constant state of providing only casual and usually not very interesting information. I see the internet audience as too real to write about the unspoken.
